You're the professional. They're your qualifications - you've worked for them and it's your expertise that's being supplied. It's also your pay and you are entitled to it in full!
|Main Pay Scale||National||Fringe||Outer London||Inner London|
A teacher on Main Pay Scale 6 is entitled to a daily rate of £168.36 (outside of London) and £188.47 in Inner London. A supply agency will typically pay a maximum of £110 taking a cut of almost a third of your entitlement. The agency will also be charging the school around £180 per day upwards for your skills, so that's £70 per day of your work that's not benefiting either you or the school.
As teachers we know that the cut taken by recruitment agencies deters many talented staff from returning to supply teaching after a career break – for many (especially those with childcare costs) it's simply not worthwhile. Supply Teachers Direct provides the solution to that, so come on back to school!
If you are looking for a permanent position registering with Supply Teachers Direct will considerably increase the opportunity for you to secure a one. How and why? - Schools pay recruitment agencies hefty finder's fees (as much as £10,000 per appointment) to secure a permanent member of staff. We do not charge our membership schools any finder's fees. Schools are free to approach any of our registered teachers with a view to employing on a permanent basis. In these times of cuts and austerity this makes you are a far more attractive candidate than that of the recruitment agency.
It's free for teachers to register with us. Complete the online enquiry form or call us on 0333 210 0019 or 07742 837 213. We'll be in touch to arrange an interview. You'll need to bring original copies of your qualifications and have at least two professional references. If you don't already have a current DBS we will arrange for you to be screened. This will cost you £68.49 which you'll pay directly to the Disclosure and Barring screening service. Once accepted you'll be provided with your login details and be able to upload your professional profile, including your availability, onto the database. Schools will then contact you directly. This might be a general 'SOS' call out for emergency cover when a number of teachers are contacted and the first to respond secures the work. Or they may select you on the basis of your particular expertise and qualifications. On your first day at the school make sure you take photo ID and your DBS certificate (the original). Upon completion of the work either invoice the school directly using the electronic invoice, or your umbrella company will invoice the school on your behalf.
