The present model of teacher recruitment through supply teaching agencies is not cost effective for either supply teachers or schools. In real terms teacher salaries have dropped considerably since the emergence of agencies. Schools are also getting a poor deal - spending significant amounts in recruitment and "finder's fees" to agencies. These funds could, and should, be used to improve educational settings and achieve better outcomes for our pupils. It's our mission to change that - and put the control and finance back into the hands of teachers and schools.
Supply Teachers Direct is not an agency however it offers all the convenience and security of a traditional recruitment agency without the costs and restrictions. In order to register with us all teachers must undergo our rigorous screening checks. Each teacher is interviewed in person, and comprehensive checks carried out to verify their qualifications and to ensure that they hold a valid DBS Certificate (previously CRB). Once registered their details and full profile are available to all Supply Teachers Direct Membership Schools.
All fees for supply staff are paid in full at Main Pay Scale rate (after any necessary deductions for tax and NI contributions). Supply Teachers Direct take neither a cut from the teacher's salary nor charge schools a finder's fee. This ensures that both the school and supply staff achieve the best possible value from the appointment. How we do it? Supply Teachers Direct is a digitalised service that doesn't operate expensive office premises, or employ teams of recruitment consultants, by cutting out all the middlemen we maximise benefits for both schools and supply staff and ensure efficiency.
Once interviewed in person and fully screened teachers upload their professional profile onto the secure database and complete their availability calendar. When in need of either day to day, short or long-term cover a membership school logs on and selects a teacher who both fit their criteria and is available over that period. The school contacts the teacher directly by sending a message via the portal, this is available 24/7. At the end of the employment period the school will be invoiced by the teacher’s umbrella company unless a different payment process has been agreed. For further details please see our dedicated Teachers and Schools pages.
Following the success of our launch in Kent we are now offering national franchise opportunities. If you are an educationalist and share our vision for a fairer system for both teachers and schools please get in touch. For a relatively modest start-up cost we will enable you to run your own network in your own county.
