Supply Teachers Direct is a free service for teachers. We've opened a direct line of contact between schools and teachers bypassing the costly and cumbersome blockage of supply teacher recruitment agencies. Once screened and registered with our database our teachers are free to work for any membership schools. Teachers receive their Main Pay Scale salary in full without any agency cut. Schools who join Supply Teachers Direct have access to our full staff database. They can view and access full staff profiles and recruit teachers directly for either short term supply or permanent positions without paying any agency or finder's fees.

Helen Thomson, the director and founder of Supply Teachers Direct, is a teacher with nearly thirty years' experience in education as a teacher and teacher trainer in the UK and overseas. She founded Supply Teachers Direct in July 2015 and the official launch took place in August 2016, signing up the first schools in the same term. However the seed for the concept had been planted two years earlier.

I was a supply teacher for many years when my children were small and recently considered returning to part-time supply while working as a freelance trainer and writer. However, I was appalled by the present agency system which takes a huge slice out of the teacher's salary and charges exorbitant top-up fees to schools. It became my mission to change that.
Since then I've been privileged to interview and register nearly 150 qualified and talented teachers, a huge bank of untapped talent who are raring to bring their expertise to the classroom but who are so often deterred by the excessive slice of their salary taken by agencies.
